BUSY DOING NOTHING

BUSY DOING NOTHING

"...Jesus entered a village. A woman by the name of Martha welcomed him and made him feel quite at home. She had a sister, Mary, who sat before the Master, hanging on every word he said. But Martha was pulled away by all she had to do in the kitchen. Later, she stepped in, interrupting them. “Master, don’t you care that my sister has abandoned the kitchen to me? Tell her to lend me a hand.” The Master said, “Martha, dear Martha, you’re fussing far too much and getting yourself worked up over nothing. One thing only is essential, and Mary has chosen it—it’s the main course, and won’t be taken from her.” - Luke 10:38-42 (MSG)

Busyness has become a badge of honour in our world today and many people have loads of it hung on their necks. To validate this assertion,  please ask any lukewarm believer around this question: "Why were you not available for evangelism and fellow up throughout last year? I guess the response would be :"I wish I could but I was actually very busy attending to some urgent and important issues". You may even wish to probe further by asking, "why were you not also available for digging deep, faith clinic and workers meeting? Or why have you been coming late to church? Or why have you not even joined the workforce? The response again may likely be: "I have been very busy lately and I hope you understand".

"It's not enough to be busy, so are the ants. The question is, what are we busy about" - Henry David Thoreau.

Beloved, if heaven could play back the video of our activities in the 365 days of year 2019 and first 8 days of this year, will it show that we were busy doing things that have eternal value? I sincerely don't think so! The video may reveal how many of us were busy running the rat race; jumping from pillar to post in pursuit of our self aggrandizing agendas. Our days may be full of activities, but in the light of eternity, we were simply busy doing nothing. We were pursuing our Martha's agenda while neglecting the most important things that God expect of us (Luke 10:38-42). Like Martha, we have misplaced our priority and lost focus of eternal purpose. This is quite appalling.

Friend, how busy are you and what have you been doing? Have you being pleasing yourself and displeasing God? Have you been feeding your body but starving your soul? Don't you know that what matters to your Martha does not really matter to God. So, why not turn your back on that lofty position of yours in the "Busy Martha Ministry" (BMM) this year and make time for things that really matter in the sight of God?. Please don't be too busy to honour God with your gifts, talents and resources this year. Be mindful of how you use your time this year. Don't just be busy, be productively busy serving God with the whole of your heart. Even in the midst of your hectic day at work, please find time to connect with your maker. When you connect with God, you will discover that your focus is clearer, your perspective brighter, your joy richer and you will experience more of the fullness of life that only God offers.

One powerful poem that summarises a typical daily routine or activity log of a busy person in any generation is titled "No Time For God". Could you please let God speak to you from this poem below:

NO TIME FOR GOD ( Author Unknown)

I knelt to pray but not for long;
I had too much to do.
I had to hurry and get to work
For bills would soon be due.

So I knelt and said a hurried prayer
And jumped up off my knees.
My Christian duty was now done.
My soul could rest at ease.

All day long, I had no time
To spread a word of cheer.
No time to speak of Christ to friends.
They'd laugh at me I'd fear.

No time, no time, too much to do;
That was my constant cry.
No time to give to souls in need,
But at last the time, the time to die.

I went before the Lord.
I came, I stood with downcast eyes.
For in his hands, God held a book;
It was the book of life.

God looked into his book and said,
"Your name I cannot find.
I once was going to write it down
But never found the time."

Friend, does the peom above describe your daily routine? Has busyness seperated you from your maker and His Kingdom duties? It is never to late to retrace your steps back to the feet of the Master. The ball is in your court and I hope you will do the needful before time eventually flies away. A word is enough for the wise.

"The bad news is that time flies. The good news is that you are the pilot" - Michael Altshuler

My prayer for you and my humble self is that: we shall be good pilot of our time in the journey of life. And as the Lord lives, every second we spend on earth shall count in light of eternity. And finally when the book of life shall be opened up yonder, our names shall not be missing there in Jesus name.

Good morning and God bless you.

Maranatha!
