THE DIVINE ROAD SIGNS

 "Remove not the ancient landmark which thy fathers have set".- Proverbs 22:28 (DARBY)

Bernard Lagat is a world-class runner from Kenya. During the Sydney Olympics, a reporter asked him how his country was able to produce so many great distance runners. Lagat answered by narrating the African strategy for motivating success in running. He said, “It’s the road signs with the inscription ’"Beware of Lions.’”

The Christian race is a long distance race that require strict diet, rigorous training and positive mentality to win (1 Corinthians 9:24-27). Every runner must keep their head up and do everything necessary to get to the finish line. One of such things that must be done is to remain focus and obey all road signs on their path. In this Christian race, our coach (God) has placed many divine road signs on the narrow way to keep us safe, to warn us, and to encourage us till we reach the finish line. 

"Think seriously about how you live. Watch carefully for danger. Remember that the Devil is your enemy. He wants to hurt you. He walks about like a hungry lion. He is looking for someone to kill and then eat them!" -1 Peter 5:8 (EASY)

The Bible is a living compendium of divine road signs that must be obeyed by anyone who desires to finish well and strong in the race of life. For example, in 1 Peter 5:8, there is a road sign that warned believers to watch out for hungry lions who are looking for opportunity to strike. The road sign in Deuteronomy 7: 3 and 2 Corinthians 6:14 is a red flag for singles never to go into marital relationship with unbelievers for any reason. King Solomon and Dinah ignored that road signs and they got their fingers burnt badly (Genesis 34:1-31, 1 Kings 11:1-9).  Also, there is a road sign in Exodus 20:12 and Ephesians 6:1-3 that can trigger premature death and agony if ignored (Matthew 15:4). The tribes of Simeon and Levi were divided and scattered in Isreal because they disobeyed that divine road sign (Genesis 29:5-7). Yes, it is true that every single divine road sign ignored or disobeyed breaks the hedge around us and allows serpent to strike (Ecclesiastes 10:8).

Beloved, I hope you have not broken the hedge of God's mercy and protection around with your disobedience and stubbornness to divine instructions? Hope you have not ignored or removed the ancient landmarks of holiness, consecration, diligent, submission, humility etc,. Are you currently swimming in the sea of perpetual losses and defeat on everyside? Why not retrace your steps back to that ever waiting outstretched arms of our Lord and Saviour - Jesus Christ? Plead for mercy today and receive grace never to disobey or ignore divine road sign or law of life again? Please don't procrastinate. Do it now so that you can finish your race well and strong in Jesus name.   

One powerful hymn that re-echoes the need to run the Christian race with focus and strive always to obey the road sign or law of life on the way is titled " There's A Way Before Us And A Race To Run". Please prayerfully meditate on the lyrics of this hymn and trust God to help you never to lose focus of the finish line till you reach the golden shore in heaven.

We are at the consummation now

Better things we are experiencing.

  Praise the Lord—reality!

E’en the least of us is greater than their great.

  We’re not small, we’re not small!

They are waiting, watching, and expecting us.

  “Forward come!” hear their call!

They have run the race and for their sakes

  We’ll obey the law of life.

Till the day we’ll all be joined in one

  To express God’s glorious Christ.

It's my prayer that you and I will not be missing at the finish line when the Master will be welcoming the saints into their mansions above. May every backslider be restored to faith and never to go back to their old ways till Christ returns in Jesus name.
