''Then an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. He said, “Teacher, what must I do to get eternal life?.” -Luke 10:25 (ERV)
There is a story of a traffic control officer who spotted a car parked illegally on the highway. Unknown to him, the driver of the car had been attacked and was already dead. Without looking at the driver, the officer issued a ticket, placed it on the dashboard, and walked away.
In Luke 10:25-37, Jesus Christ spoke about the issue of insensitive souls on duty while responding to a question asked by an expert in Jewish religious law. From Christ's response, at least two out of every three believers on duty on earth are insensitive to the plight of the helpless ones around them. The pitiable conditions of dead and wounded souls matching recklessly to eternity without Christ on daily basis does not move/bother them. Instead of having compassion like Jesus Christ, they issue tickets of condemnation and judgment to unbelievers/ backsliders and walk away without showing remorse. This is quite unfortunate!
Beloved, many insensitive souls (believers) are on duty today. Most of them may even have impressive job titles or ordination status like priests, levites, ministers, deacons etc but they are heartless, callous or inhumane in their disposition toward wounded souls on earth. To this set of people, evangelism and follow-up are not priorities in their walk with God. They seem to have forgotten the repercussions of disobeying the rescue mandate given to the disciples by Jesus Christ in Matthew 28:19.
Friends, there are three categories of people on earth: the wounded souls, the living but sensitive souls and the living but insensitive souls. Which category do you belong to? If you have not surrendered your life to Jesus Christ, then, you are among the first category. Therefore, I urge you to please repent and confess your sins now. However, if you are among the living but insensitive souls, please cry to God to have mercy on you and revive you today.
One hymn that summaries Jesus Christ's response to the question asked by that Jewish law religious expert in Luke 10:25-37 is titled ''Does Anyone Care?"
Does Anyone Care? (Author unknown)
1. I was going down
From Jerusalem to Jericho,
Towards that cursed town,
Exchanging peace for pain and sorrow.
Then the robbers came
Stripped me and beat me, left me half dead.
Stuck here, bruised and lame
Will this wretched road be my deathbed?
Can somebody help me?
I’m hurting! I’m dying! Does anyone care?
I have an urgent need!
But sadly it seems that no one is aware.
2. Wait, a priest I see!
Descending like me. My case he’ll claim!
He passes by me,
Then comes a Levite and does the same.
I thought they would help me!
They seemed to serve God and to honor His name.
Religion is empty!
It cannot heal me. All my wounds still remain.
3. A Samaritan
Comes upon me and observes my plight.
Moved with compassion
He treats my wounds, binding them just right.
Lord Jesus You found me!
You poured oil and wine on my wounds, them to heal!
You put me on Your beast!
At last! Here is kindness and tenderness real.
4. Now I’m in the inn,
The church, with all those under Your care.
And now I begin
To find some others still in despair.
Lord, bring in more wounded!
Those without the Spirit and the life divine.
That they could be added,
And at Your return, the same care You would find.
May God revive every insensitive soul in this generation and use them mightily to bring in many wounded/dead souls into His Inn in Jesus name, Amen.
