THE PROOF OF THE PUDDING

''The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men, Come, see a man, which told me all things that I ever did: is not this the Christ?  Then they went out of the city, and came unto him'' - John  4:28-30

A Professor told his students that the resurrection of Jesus Christ was false. He made reference to many scholars and books to buttress his point. Thereafter, he asked if there were any questions. One of the students stood up and said: "Sir, I have one question". As he attempted to ask his question, the student reached into his lunch pack, pulled out an apple, and began to eat it, then he said to the Professor "Sir, this apple I'm eating, is it bitter or sweet?” The Professor paused for a moment and answered in exemplary scholarly manner: "I cannot possibly answer that question, for I haven’t tasted your apple." Then, the student looked up at the Professor and said calmly, “Neither have you tasted my Jesus.”

"The proof of the pudding is in the eating" simply means one can only evaluate the quality of something after it has been tried, tasted, used, or experienced. Many amazing paradigm shifts on the pages of history confirm that this saying is true. For example, after Saul of Tarsus- a renowned prosecutor of the church had tasted the sweet saviour on the road to Damascus, his life took a new turn and he became a promoter of the gospel (Acts 9:1- 22). The scintillating taste and aroma oozing forth from the radiant glory and contagious power of resurrection changed a highly dreaded terrorist to a specially anointed Apostle of Jesus Christ. Who could have believed that merely tasting the living water at the sixth hour by the well of Jacob can turn a depressed woman into a city-transforming Evangelist in Samaria (John 4:4-42). Indeed, the proof of the pudding is in the eating! (Psalms 34:8-10)

"O taste and see that the Lord [our God] is good! Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who trusts and takes refuge in Him''- Psalms 34:8.

Beloved, the question that student asked his Professor is still very relevant today. Have you tasted the amazing fruits of salvation that Jesus bought with His precious blood on the cross of Calvary? If you have not, then I need to remind you that "the proof of the pudding is in the eating!" Please taste and see that the Lord is good. You will never regret you did. In case you have tasted the power of the resurrected Christ, then you should be kind and bold enough to tell everyone around you how sweet your Jesus is. Please don't be selfish, share your apples with people whose heads are full (like the above professor) but their hearts are completely empty.

The lyrics of this hymn below describes how the Samaritan woman draw the attention of everyone around her to the Saviour.

OH, COME SEE A MAN

One day as the Lord passed a well,

A woman so thirsty was there.

He was not content until

He left her the water that’s real, pure, and clear.

Chorus:

               Oh, come see a man,

               Oh, come see a man,

Who told me all things that ever I did.

               Is this not the Christ?

               Is this not the Christ?

He fills me forever and ever! Amen.

He spoke words that I’d never heard,

Yet how He did stir up my thirst!

He spoke of the water that lives,

To all who are thirsty, He freely will give.

Now this living water have I!

I drink and I soar to the sky!

His praises now fill all the air

Because I am speaking Him, now, everywhere!

May we begin to soar on high like that Samaritan woman as we tell someone about God's love (2 Corinthians 5:18).

"..Because of what Christ has done, God has brought us back to himself, as his friends. Now he wants us to bring other people to be his friends too. That is the job that he has given to us." - 2 Corinthians 5:18 (EASY)

Good day, and God bless.

Maranatha!
