SIN - THE DEADLY CANCER OF THE SOUL

Several years ago, there was a big flourishing tree in the middle of an ancient Village. The tree had developed a very deep root system that makes it practically impossible for it to be uprooted by rain and heavy storms. The strong root systems also provide massive support for its flourishing branches and evergreen leaves. Over time, this big tree became the envy of every other tree in the village. On one sunny day, the villagers suddenly discovered that this enviable tree had fallen. Much to their surprise, the tree did not fall due to severe rains, storms or earthquake. When they closely examined the tree, they saw several insects on the inside. Apparently, that mighty tree had been pulled down by those small insects - termites. For a long time, the small insects were quietly and secretly eating the soul of the tree and nobody knew about it. The tree looked good on the outside but its trunk was being destroyed by those small termites on the inside. Something believed to be impossible for heavy rains and strong windy storms was easily executed by tiny deceptively harmless termites.

"The sins of some men are conspicuous (openly evident to all eyes), going before them to the judgment [seat] and proclaiming their sentence in advance; but the sins of others appear later [following the offender to the bar of judgment and coming into view there] " - 1 Timothy 5:24 (AMP)

Sin is a highly destructive cancer of the soul. It is more deadly than bronchial, colon, breast or pancreatic cancers. It secretly destroys the soul of a man from within. The bible is full of many great destinies that were destroyed by those seemly tiny but extremely deadly cancer of the soul called "Sin." For example, this cancer deleted Judas Iscariot's name from the list of the twelve Apostles (Acts 1:20). He was pilfering from the money bag while serving as a Treasurer in the ministry of Jesus Christ (John 12:6). Gradually, the cancer weakened his love for God (Luke 16:13). The hidden cancerous cells began to grow, multiplied and spread like wildfire until it finally brought down the flourishing tree of Judas Iscariot in his prime age. Judas eventually sold his master to satisfy his lust for money (Matthew 26:14-16) and he died a miserable death as the cancer of sin dug a grave for him in Hell (Matthew 27:5). That was how a man destined to swim in overflowing ocean of glory on the day of Pentecost ended up in the horrible desert of everlasting shame and pain (Acts 1:16-20). What a pathetic ending!  

Beloved, there are many people in this generation who are still living like Judas Iscariot. They are like that enviable tree in the middle of the village of life. Some hidden deadly cancer of sins has infected and eaten up their souls yet everyone around them did not know. These people occupy an enviable position like Judas in their churches, neighbourhoods, communities, offices, and nations. They look very charming and glamorous outwardly but the cancer of the soul (sin) has secretly devoured them completely from within. Those hidden cancerous cells of sin had dogged the grave of shame and everlasting pain for them in Hell but they are not willing to repent and amend their ways. Cancer has secretly eaten up their glorious destiny like Judas and may soon dump their carcass inside that Horrible Lake of Fire (Revelation 21:8). I hope you are not one of them? If you are, please repent and cry for mercy today. 

"The city has no need of the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God shines on it, and the Lamb is its lamp. But nothing that is impure will enter the city, nor anyone who does shameful things or tells lies. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of the living will enter the city" -Revelation 21:23, 27 (GNB)

The lyrics of this wonderful Christian hymn below describes how this deadly cancer of the soul (sin) can stop/prevent us from swimming in Glory with Christ (Revelation 21:27). "Sin Can Never Enter There" is the title of this hymn that was composed by Charles W. Naylor in 1899. I urge you to please meditate on the lyrics of this hymn as we trust God to help us fumigate and destroy every cancer of sin hidden in our soul so that we will not be denied access into the City of Glory on the last day.

My prayer for you and my humble self is that deadly cancer of the soul will not stop us at the door of glory in Jesus name. Amen.
